Biscotti



1 cup warm water
1 pkg. dry yeast
1 cup lard, melted (or substitute with another type of shortening)
5 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
+/- 3 cups flour
anise seed to taste


  1. Combine warm water with yeast. Add enough flour to make a soft sponge. Let rise.
  2. Add lard, eggs, sugar, salt, flour and anise seed.
  3. Let dough rise until double in bulk.
  4. Roll into rope and shape into doughnut shaped cookies.
  5. Bake at 375° until browned.
