Biscotti
1 cup warm water
1 pkg. dry yeast
1 cup lard, melted (or substitute with another type of shortening)
5 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
+/- 3 cups flour
anise seed to taste
- Combine warm water with yeast. Add enough flour to make a soft sponge. Let rise.
- Add lard, eggs, sugar, salt, flour and anise seed.
- Let dough rise until double in bulk.
- Roll into rope and shape into doughnut shaped cookies.
- Bake at 375° until browned.
